What is the difference in a Wireless g-Access Point, Expander, Range Extender,Signal Booster RF Amplifier?

I have a wireless Netgear cable modem gateway on the main computer and my son’s XBox 360 has the wireless adapter for XBox Live. I don’t have any other devices/computers that need a wireless connection. The problem is, the number & configuration of walls & ceilings and the range between the two make the connection unreliable. There are so many devices to fix the problem. . . but which one?
In general I’m curious to know the difference between all of the mentioned devices. Thank you Thank you!

There’s a couple of things you can do here:
1. Check to see if you Wireless Router has an omni-directional antenna. If it does, move it away from an outside wall (since you don’t really need to broadcast your signal outdoors). You may want to consider buying a unidirectional antenna wireless router if you have only one real “place” that you need the wireless signal to go (the XBOX).
2. How unreliable is the connection? Does it only go out every now and then? If it’s only occasionally, you may only want to get an Expander or Signal Booster. Either of these may get the extra 10% signal that the XBOX needs to keep a constant connection.
3. If the connection seems to go out quite a bit, I’d suggest getting a Range Extender/Repeater. This basically just repeats your wireless signal further (i.e., your computer is in the living room, you put the repeater at the top of the stairs, so that your son’s XBOX in his bedroom works).
they are all the same thing, just the device just has so many names
, first thing you want to do is replace the aerial on the back of the netgear box with a high gain wireless aerial, this will help greatly with range, i would be looking for something like ‘WAN LAN Enhancer 7dBi Aerial’
they are also called repeaters
and if that doesnt get enough coverage then if you a computer shop to get a repeater/expander
