Just plug it in and it works great -- none of the extenders with an antenna worked as well. Range of the WGX102 is not large but it's easy to move from one electric socket to another so it's easy to get a strong signal wherever you are.

I bought this, plus the companion XE102, at another web site. I was prepared for troubles, particularly since a got a refurbished set at a bargain price. However, all the setup, including adding WEP security, was accomplished quickly with no fuss - and I'm the kind of guy who attracts trouble when it comes to network configuration. Everything worked the first time. The range is pretty good, too.

I gave it just three stars because the throughput is much slower than when I connect instead to my regular Netgear wireless router. Still way faster than dialup, but photos on cnn.com "paint" onto the screen instead of popping onto the screen. Some of this may be due to the fact that my house is about fifty years old and some of the electrical wiring is questionable. Still, I'm pleased to have coverage at the far end of the house without any hassle.

This thing was a major hassle from the start. Difficult to set up (even for an experienced computer user like me). Once it was set up, it took about 5 minutes to get an IP address every time I connected to it. For the non-tech savvy, that means I would turn on my computer, connect to the network, then wait 5 minutes to be able to go online, even though I was laready fully connected to the device. That level of terrible performance is simply unacceptable.

Then, about 4 months after I bought it, it up and broke.

Don't waste your money on this terrible, terrible piece of equipment.

Since our router is in the basement and our computers are on the second floor and in the office behind the garage, this range extender really helps. Both of our computers work much better.

Surprisingly works fairly well. Easy to install and integrate with my existing wireless infrastructure. Only complaint is I have to reset the base unit fare more than my existing Netgear Wireless Access point.
