I have a wrt54g with high gain antenna’s. Would a linksys range expander work better or a new expanded range router?

I’ve found that using range extenders help, but can be a pain to setup and maintain. It’s confusing so be ready for some trail and error in the setup. When setup as an extender, you plug it in via ethernet to a lone PC, make the setup identical to your main AP, and then just place it out where you need it with power only.
I’m more interested in the new “n” standard and MIMO technology. It’s supposed to extend range on all devices using that technology.
If you have a pre version 5, ie version 4 and lower, you can upload another firmware to the router which will give you a bunch of other features, including increasing the transmission power of the router. As it stands linksys limits you to 28 mw transmission power. With the dd-wrt firmware, you can up it to 251 mw transmission power. Doin this will reduce the number of dropped conections and increase the range that the router can be accessed from.
I use dd-wrt on my router and have had no problem with it at all.
