How can I boost the range of my linksys 802.11g wireless home network?
I can not access the network in my kitchen or the southern half of my garage, and wonder whether a booster device exists

Your best bet is to use high gain antennas.
you could use higher range antennas, but those will probably barely boost your range. A better value for its performance would be the wireless raneg extender, which boosts ur range and only needs a power outlet, its time and cen be put into any corner.
on some routers, u can replace the aerial with a high gain antenna. u can get this from any local computer shop.
or u can buy whats know as repeaters, that take the signal from the router and then boost it like u have another router.
Probably the easiest way is to install the linksys extented range antennas. They run about $50.
.. just another thought … but the linksys WAP wireless access point has much better range than the routers … my access point has at least 100 yard range full strength … i have even picked it up two blocks away using my laptop in the car.
In my personal experience, I have not found high-gain antennas to help very much. Instead, I would suggest that you look at getting a Linksys Range Expander. Here is the info from their site:

Alternatively, you could replace your existing Linksys router with one that includes RangeBooster:
