My review of the Alfa AWUS036NH 802.11n WIRELESS-N USB Wi-Fi adapter 2 watt.
I needed an adapter/antenna that could pull in wifi signals in my apartment complex. My internal Atheros chipset was mediocre at best. I bought a NetGear usb card that said it was really powerful only to find that it was worse than my Atheros chip set. The Alfa AWUS036NH 802.11n WIRELESS-N USB Wi-Fi adapter 2 watt promised an dramatic increase to pulling wifi signals to my computer.
For the most part it has done what it promised. I couldn’t get a signal into my apartment at all before I bought the card. Now I am getting some gain. The card itself boosted my gain 2 to 10 points depending on where you use it. I also made a signal dish out of aluminum foil, a plastic collander and a old CD to reflect and to hold the suction cup attachment. That really helps the USB card to pull signal. Don’t think that when you buy this card that it will be a miracle cure but it will help. For under $50 it is a significant stop gap. J

Definitely NOT for beginners …
While ALL drivers+softwares currently offer you an ‘Installation Assistance’, here it is different …
Installation process offers you NO pre-set configuration options, specially regarding your O.S. options… so that you will HAVE to read through ‘User’s Manual’ to find MANY explanations on input data, just like in the 90s. Have to to have PRIOR knowledge of technical acronyms and codes (AP, WPS, STA, etc and several more etc)… cloudy description of password usage …
Had to completely uninstall my anti-virus, with NO prior warning on it – my instincts told me so … But I will not give up, the stakes are already too high, so are my expectations …
I am doing it by pieces, 3 hours yesterday, 1.5 hours today … My 15 years with PCs will have to worth something now, I hope ….
THEY WANT ME TO BECOME A TECHNICIAN ON THE STUFF !!!
Last surprise: drivers sent were for XP, no W7 drivers available !
I then went to manufacturer’s website, and there they gladly announce ‘new’ drivers for W7 !!! Celebration !!!
But then, guess what … it is the same as the one for XP !!!
p.s.1: Yet I couldn’t check if is indeed a top-brass stuff as claimed, but … I will trust them on that …
p.s.2: I had a GREAT expectation about this product, because my travels drive me to hotels were signal strength is often poor and unstable.
